For all of winter’s wonders, it often brings along colds, flu, viral illnesses and respiratory infections with accompanying sore throats and coughs.
According to an article in the Mayo Clinic December 2021 newsletter, antibiotics won’t work in these situations and for many, over-the-counter medications don’t work that well.
Maybe honey is the answer?
Mayo Clinic, December 2021 Newsletter prescribes Honey to Calm a Cough reporting, “Honey did a better job of decreasing cough frequency and severity in upper respiratory tract infections such as colds, coughs and flu-like sickness.”
The American College of Chest Physicians also prescribes honey to help relieve acute coughs in children over 12 years old but warns not to give honey to children younger than one, as it can result in infant botulism, a rare but serious condition.
Though honey is mostly fructose, an unprocessed artisanal honey (BUZZ SAVORIES HONEY) also contains a beneficial mix of amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, iron, zinc, and antioxidants.
